Switzerland is known for its breathtaking mountains, which offer some of the best hiking and skiing opportunities in the world. These two sports are therefore very popular and 65,000 km of hiking trails and over 7,000 km of ski slopes invite to indulge in these activities. Mentors and students will have the opportunity to visit a mountain top.
One of the most famous cultural references associated with Swiss mountains is the beloved children's book "Heidi" by Johanna Spyri (1st published 1879). The story follows the life of a young girl named Heidi who lives with her grandfather in a small cabin in the Swiss Alps. The book has been translated into more than 50 languages and has become a classic of children's literature.
Mount Rigi and Säntis are two of the most popular mountains in Switzerland. Did you know that 48 of the 82 Alpine peaks over 4,000 m are in Switzerland? The highest peak measuring 4,634 m is the “Dufourspitze”. We will not get that that height.
Mount Rigi is located in the heart of Switzerland, and is known as the "Queen of the Mountains". Its summit stands at 1,798 meters above sea level, and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Lake Lucerne. The ride up to the summit on the cogwheel railway is an unforgettable experience.
Säntis, on the other hand, is located in eastern Switzerland, and is the highest mountain in the Alpstein range. Its summit stands at 2,502 meters above sea level, and offers spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The Säntis cable car offers a breathtaking ride up to the summit, with stunning views along the way.
